Do women only wear lingerie for sex?
There’s a common misconception (by men) that gorgeous lingerie is worn purely for their benefit or for sex – but this couldn’t be any further from the truth. While lingerie has been worn for hundreds of years as a way of seducing a man, this is no longer necessarily the case and most women choose and wear their lingerie for themselves. Don’t get me wrong – one of the top reasons many of us wear our sexiest lingerie is for the sake of sex – because let’s be honest, what man can resist a tightly fitted chemise with matching suspenders?
While many do consider lingerie as a top priority in the bedroom, it’s by no means the only example we need to consider when choosing our style of undergarments. There is so much more to our underwear than for the sake of sex.
Underwear or Lingerie?
Lingerie is the collective term referred to for women’s foundation wear. I think there are two basic styles of undergarments – the ‘lazy day at home’ type, comfortable, often mis-matched and definitely with no rigid underwires (I call this ‘basic underwear’ because knickers and a bra are more or less essential whatever style you choose) – whereas ‘lingerie’ is how I refer to the ‘nice’ stuff, the things you feel and look good in. Underwear says to me Cotton or Lycra, whereas ‘lingerie’ screams silks, satins and lace.
Feeling Feminine, Confident, and Sexy
People often enjoy wearing nice lingerie simply because it makes them feel very feminine and as a woman, feeling feminine boosts confidence. This rings true whether you’re with your partner, stood in front of a mirror admiring your figure or out and about.
Many women choose to wear their best lingerie daily – whether that be at a bar, at work, or simply for a quick trip to the local supermarket. It’s proven that doing this boosts self-esteem. As a result, this will be reflected in your own self-worth and empower you to become a more confident person.
The Feel of Lingerie
Many forms of lingerie that are made for everyday use such as bras and panties are designed for comfort. While I wouldn’t recommend certain types of garments for comfort – such as as cheap underwire bra (where the wire ends up digging into your armpit), a pair of tights that sit well below crotch level, or a pair of knickers made in scratchy lace, there are plenty of other choices that’ll do the job particularly well.
As a rule of thumb, get the best you can afford. It will pay off both in terms of comfort and confidence boosting. For example, you can’t beat the luxurious feeling of a pair of nylon stockings, or the smooth sensation of silky satin or delicate lace panties. Great lingerie offers a feeling that’s unmatched by any other form of clothing and many of us just love the sensations of it caressing our body. Not only does it make us feel sexy and glamorous, but it’s also just so damn comfortable to wear!
And women aren’t the only gender that agrees. More men than ever before have expressed their interest in cross-dressing and wearing women’s lingerie. The CD community is booming with men that swear by the feeling of ladies lingerie. Many have tossed out their male underwear in favour of panties, pantyhose, bras, stockings, and so on, which they wear underneath their everyday clothes.
Lingerie – A Hidden Secret
There’s a certain kind of excitement people may get from wearing lingerie without anybody knowing. The rush of turning up to work, seeing everybody around you kitted out in shirts and ties, skirts and blouses. While you know that discreetly hidden beneath your outfit is a sexy piece of lingerie accentuating your magnificent figure.
Nobody will ever know and this feeling alone can induce somebody with a rush of excitement. it’s like a secret that you’re flaunting daily yet never revealing to anybody. Camisoles, pantyhose, suspender belts and even snap crotch teddies. These are all perfect examples of lingerie that can be hidden away beneath your regular clothing.

Lingerie in the Bedroom
Of course, this article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning one of the more popular reasons women wear a certain type of lingerie. Yes, you guessed it, for sex.
When it comes to sex, a woman in sexy lingerie is a powerful thing. It’s a prop that can be used to increase confidence, boost sexual attraction and heighten the endorphins of both you and your partner. The very sight of a woman in her lingerie is irresistible to most men. It’s like its own form of foreplay that tells a story and creates a bond that can be fun and exciting. The visuals of a push-up bra or the feel of silk and lace, all this excitement before you’ve even engaged in any acts of sex.
Wearing it also sends a message that you’ve thought about your partner’s interests. It shows that you’re willing to take the time and put in the effort to satisfy his desires and fantasies. I don’t think I have ever met a man that didn’t respond positively to some form of lingerie. So much so that most prefer you to keep it on even once the lights have gone out.

What about straight men?

I am a straight, married man who wears women’s lingerie. My wife accepts my underwear choices (although it did take me a long time to approach the subject with her) and we have incorporated my dressing up in panties, stockings, suspenders belts and heels into our love life. I don’t want to pass as female but just enjoy the feel and look of myself in lingerie (some of which I have purchased from swankypins!). Your comments above about the excitement generated from wearing silk, satin and lace lingerie is definitely true for me and my wife.

It’s called Fantasy tbh.

Likewise, John. I far prefer wearing female clothes and underwear, but i don’t want to present as female so restrict my outerwear to indoors. My wife is fine with this. I mean REALLY fine and supportive. I’ve given up trying to understand the psychology of it, I’m just far more comfortable wearing female clothes, but other than that, in all other things, I’m a very blokey bloke.

took a while for me to get my partner on board and as I am sure you well know the fun you both have as I do.
